Askja & Kverkfjöll two days Tour

95.000 ISK per person

Departing from Lake Mývatn, we drive along the ring road until we get to Hrossaborg. A 10,000 year old volcanic crater that was once used to keep horses! From there we head to Askja. This will be a nice leisurely drive and there will be plenty of opportunities to stop on the way to take in the beautiful surroundings.

At Askja we will have enough time to enjoy some stunning hiking trails. You have two choices. The first is the longer and rather challenging A2 hiking trail from Drekagil. It is 8,8 km but offers unparalleled views of the Askja caldera from the mountain rim. The other is the easier 2,4 km A1 trail that runs from the car park at Vikraborgir to Askja lake and the Viti crater.

We then leave Askja and drive to Kverkfjöll where we will enjoy a well earned break and a good night’s sleep in a mountain hut.

On the second day you have two options. There is the opportunity to go on a hike up a glacier. Please note that this is a separate tour organised by professional glacial hikers and is not included in the price. Alternatively you could spend the day exploring the amazing geothermal fields around Kverkfjöll.

In the afternoon we head back to Lake Mývatn, stopping off at Möðrudalur, a traditional Icelandic farmhouse for coffee and refreshments.

This is a fully guided tour with everything included!

ATTENTION: The weather in the highlands can change very fast and it is very important to have good shoes as well as warm and preferably waterproof clothes.Due to road or weather conditions, the tour might take longer than planned or in some cases force us to cancel the trip. If there is heavy snow, the walk from the car to the crater at Víti will take longer and be more difficult.

PRICE 95.000 ISK per person / Departure at 8:00am from Hotel Reynihlíð Parking / Mývatn Activity Office at Reykjahlíð.
